Helpful Answers to Commonly Asked Questions for Parents in the GET Community

How do I know if online services are right for my child?

It is important for us to consider the impact of the following factors on the client’s ability to participate in online therapy:

  • Physical and sensory characteristics such as hearing ability, visual ability, ability to operate a keyboard, and sitting tolerance.

  • Cognitive, behavioral, and/or motivational characteristics such as level of cognitive functioning, ability to maintain attention, ability to sit still in front of the camera, and willingness of the client/or family to receive services via telepractice.

  • Communication abilities such as the ability to respond to verbal directions or commands, intelligible speech without excessive need for clarification, an interpreter for sessions, or the use of an AAC device that requires different equipment or setup.

  • Client’s support resources such as availability of technology, access to and availability of resources (e.g. computer, bandwidth, facilitator), a quiet room with minimal distractions, and the ability of the client and/or facilitator to operate and troubleshoot technology and transmission.

What type of neurodiverse students do you work with?

All of our therapists and educators have experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Disorder(ADD)/Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Learning Disability (SLD), Language Impairments (SLI), Speech Sound Disorders (SSD), Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), Stuttering, and Down Syndrome. However, we are capable of working with all types of neurodiverse children because we believe all children should GET the services they deserve!

What is a multidisciplinary team?

A multidisciplinary team approach is essential for accurate diagnosis and successful intervention strategies. That’s why we at Global Education Therapy have weekly meetings to collaborate with all members of your child’s team.

What type of technology or programs do you recommend?

At Global Education Therapy we use Zoom to ensure HIPAA compliance in order for you and your child’s sessions are not only effective but safe! Although tablets and mobile devices can be used during sessions, we recommend a laptop with good internet connection and a webcam.

Do I need to be present for a session?

It truly depends on the client. It’s preferred that each child has an e-helper available should technical difficulties arise, and/or to help their child stay on task.

Can you do full evaluations online?

Every member of our multidisciplinary team uses online approved informal and formal evaluations to determine our client’s strengths and weaknesses to develop unique treatment plans.
